Ask 100 Manchester United fans about which prospect in the club’s academy they’re most excited about, and Angel Gomes will probably be the first name on 90% of their lips.
There’s a reason for this too.
The young attacking midfielder, who can play down the side of the attack too, has already featured a couple of times for the first-team, coming off the bench in the Premier League and the FA Cup.
Also playing for the U23s in the Premier League and featuring the UEFA Youth League, the 17-year-old is playing way above his age group, and it’s not gone unnoticed by Gazzetta dello Sport, who rank him as the 36th most talented youngster in the world born after 1998.
The Italian newspaper give a brief description of what he can do: fast and great with the ball at his feet, at his most dangerous when running at the opposition defence.
However, they do point at his height (around 5’3”), but since he’s ‘adored by Mou’, who says it doesn’t impede him in training, there shouldn’t be too much to worry about.
The big question is: will the competition of players in his position at Manchester United be too much of an obstacle?
Only time will tell.
