Despite receiving mixed critics for his first season in the Premier League, Bastian Schweinsteiger showed the world he is still capable of performances at the highest level during the Euros in France.
Currently preparing for his marriage with tennis star Ana Ivanovic, the 31-year-old has been the subject of a few rumours since José Mourinho’s arrival, including that of a mysterious move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Originating in Bild, the story has now made its way to France Football, who seem very convinced the player will be leaving Old Trafford this summer.
As far as they are concerned, it’s not a case of “if” or “maybe”, Bastian Schweinsteiger *will* leave Manchester United this summer as José Mourinho doesn’t see him as part of his plans.
The player is apparently also on the verge of announcing his retirement from international football, meaning he would be able to fully focus on his fitness for his club; a positive for whoever picks him up.
France Football say the German legend could, of course, go the MLS, but he would rather give Europe one last shot, and that’s where Paris Saint-Germain come in.
According to the French magazine, the Ligue 1 champions have already enquired about him, which his entourage does not deny, and the prospect of playing in Paris is rather appealing to the player.
Of course, marketing wise, his reputation in Asia would undoubtedly be a plus to the Champions League quarter-finalists.
This is some strong stuff from France Football, and it wouldn’t be the first time PSG bring in an ageing footballer just for some publicity, even if it is just for the odd season.
David Beckham, anyone?
