It’s over. Mourinho has won.
At least, that’s what AS are reporting on Wednesday as they claim that David De Gea will 100% be staying at Manchester United, after the Spanish goalkeeper made the decision to forget about Real Madrid and remain in the north of England.
The player is said to be inspired by José Mourinho’s project, with the Portuguese manager speaking to the player personally and persuading him to stay in Manchester.
There had been rumours the player and Manchester United had agreed on a clause in his contract stipulating that were Real Madrid to make a €50m offer for him, the Premier League club would have to accept it.
Well, according to the Spanish newspaper, this clause did exist, but it’s now expired, since it was only available up until the 15th of June 2016 i.e. today.
De Gea is said to have wanted to include this clause because of his bad relationship with Louis Van Gaal, but now that the Dutchman is out of the picture, the Spain international wants to stay.
Down Real Madrid’s end, Zidane is the one who resisted Florentino Pérez when it came to signing the former Atlético Madrid starlet, as the French manager is a big fan of Real’s current keeper Keylor Navas.
As a result of this, the Costa Rican will apparently now be given a new bumper contract, which will see him double his salary with the Spanish giants.
Good news for Manchester United fans, then.
