It’s been a while (about a month) since we’ve had a decent William Carvalho to Manchester United rumour, but Corriere dello Sport get the ball rolling on Wednesday on their website.
The Italian newspaper claim that after Leicester, Everton and Southampton over the summer, José Mourinho’s side are poised to renew a very long interest in the Portuguese midfielder in January.
It’s hard to pinpoint when these rumours started exactly, but the idea of United trying to buy the now 24-year-old became very prominent under David Moyes’ tenure before becoming rather more sporadic when Louis van Gaal was in charge.
Considering Mourinho is Portuguese and William Carvalho is too, these attempted resurgences of an old rumour stink of people putting two and two together and getting a nice, solid five with an article about United interest.
With a contract running until 2020 and a president very reluctant to see his defensive midfield star anywhere else, it could be a tough and expensive fight for anyone to prise him away from Sporting CP.
Even Manchester United.
