Antonio Conte has refused a sumptuous proposal from Newcastle United as the manager is awaiting an approach from Manchester United, according to claims from Italy.

The former Chelsea manager is without a job since leaving Inter Milan in May, just weeks after guiding them to a league success. His name has been linked to both United and the Tyneside club recently, with Old Trafford links growing in recent days.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure following Manchester United’s 4-2 loss to Leicester City at the weekend. The latest defeat means the Red Devils have picked up only one point in their last three league matches.

During 7 Gold’s program, Il Processo, Italian journalist Fabio Santini stated Conte is not in favour of joining Newcastle.

“Antonio Conte has refused a pharaonic offer from Newcastle. The reason? He is waiting for a call from Manchester United,” Santini was quoted as saying by Area Napoli.

Manchester United have a tough run of games before November’s international break, facing Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the league and Atalanta twice in the Champions League.

If results don’t go in United’s favour, the rumours linking Conte and other managers to the English club will only gather more pace.
