On November 5th, Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported Manchester United were ‘lurking’ for the January signing of Medhi Benatia, and it was explained that the Premier League club ‘really need’ him.
On November 6th, Calciomercato reported Manchester United are ‘desperate’ to get January signings in, and Benatia was one of those named.
Claims have continued since then and as far as some in the Italian sport media are concerned, Jose Mourinho’s club have a strong interest in signing the defender in the next window.
Thursday’s edition of Tuttosport reports AC Milan are also keen, but they’re having serious money issues so a straight transfer would be very difficult in the winter market. Payment would be delayed or the deal could be a loan, but that’s hardly going to excite Juventus.
Tuttosport say there are teams ‘ready to welcome’ the player, and name Manchester United and Marseille. Unfortunately for Milan, it’s stated those clubs ‘could immediately satisfy Juventus from an economic point of view’.
The Turin newspaper claimes Juve are looking at €20m for the 31 year old, but previous claims in Italy have suggested €15m may be enough.
Should Mourinho be struggling to find an experienced and available defender in the winter window, then this is certainly an option.
