Wednesday afternoon saw the interesting news emerge from Italy, via Gazzetta dello Sport to be more precise, that Fernando Felicevich, Alexis Sanchez’s agent, was in Milan to see if he could get his client away from Old Trafford.
The detail from the meeting was promising for Manchester United fans, who would ideally like to their club to distance itself from the Chilean, as the Italian newspaper claimed the two parties were heading towards a ‘divorce’.
Thursday’s edition of the newspaper has a little more depth to it than the online version published 18 hours previous, but it also isn’t as promising.
The only way Sanchez was going to go to Inter was via a loan with a view to buy, but Gazzetta point out it would be ‘difficult, if not impossible’ for the Serie A side to pull a full transfer off, even in a year’s time.
The Chilean is now described as a ‘remote possibility’ for the Italians, who have ‘other priorities’ to focus on, such as sorting out Mauro Icardi’s future.
It really is a wonder how Manchester United managed to shoot themselves in the foot as badly as they have done with Sanchez, and unless he magically returns to his Arsenal form next season, which seems highly unlikely, they’re stuck with his wages for the foreseeable future.
