It’s been a busy day for Manchester United news over at Sport Witness, with some scouting news, some amateur psychology, Sir Alex Ferguson letting the world know he still cares about Cristiano Ronaldo and an unexpected return.

Confusing day for Bastian Schweinsteiger

The week started much like any other for Bastian Schweinsteiger, reportedly frozen out of Manchester United first-team and reserve team, which led to some transfer rumours in Italy.

CalcioMercatoNews (ahem…) claim a move to AC Milan is ‘one step away’ for the German midfielder, with an ‘important offer’ already made, while LA Galaxy are also trying to get involved.

Read more on that here.

However, José Mourinho had other plans, with the Portuguese manager, in what can only be considered an early Christmas miracle, allowing Schweinsteiger to train with the Manchester United first-team on Monday.

Does this mean a move away is now off and Bastian will play soon? We doubt it. Maybe José was just feeling extra-generous. Either that, or he’s lost it completely.

Emmanuel Petit ‘fears for Mourinho’s mental health’

See what we did there?

Number two on the list is former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder/defender Emmanuel Petit, in his new role as presenter/pundit on SFR Sport discussing José Mourinho’s psychiatric levels.

The Portuguese manager appears to be losing his cool a bit, but it’s probably far too early to suggest he’s bordering a mental breakdown, which is what Petit is alluding to there.

Sir Alex Ferguson reckons Cristiano Ronaldo should win the Ballon d’Or

In what is probably the least surprising news of the day, former manager believes his former protégé should win a prestigious award.

The Manchester United legend was on the front cover of Marca on Monday, discussing the Real Madrid star, and it was all very heartwarming.

Ferguson said things like “I cannot think of anyone better to lift the Ballon d’Or” or “His achievements are unsurpassed”.

Manchester United scout same player 10 times, they’re probably interested

We thought we’d finish with some scouting news, saving the best until last.

According to A Bola, Manchester United has now sent scouts to specifically watch Sporting CP’s Gelson Martins, rather than just going there for a free game of football.

There’s a lot more detail about the player, his contract situation and United’s interest in him here.
