Over the past week, FIFA decided and then confirmed that players in the Ukraine league, and foreigners in the Russian league can leave their clubs as free agents, on a basis that would last until the summer.

That’s obviously encouraged some transfer rumours, although even on a free agent basis it could be difficult for Premier League clubs to even consider a signing, given their squads for the PL and European competitions will already be finalised.

Nevertheless, Thursday’s edition of AS links both Manchester United and Manchester City with a Shakhtar Donetsk player.

Vinicius Tobías is a Brazilian right back, who only signed for the Ukraine club in January, so is obviously facing a confusing and difficult time. According to the report, the 18-year-old is of interest to both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, as well as Manchester United and Manchester City.

According to the same report, Real Madrid, as well as the teams managed by Ralf Rangnick and Pep Guardiola, were already interested in the winter market.

For Manchester United and Manchester City this looks more like something they’d consider in the summer.
