We’re getting a bit bored with the André Gomes to Manchester United rumours, to be quite honest, but it seems the Italian, Portuguese and Spanish media aren’t.

Everything the player says or does is analysed and turned into a transfer story, and the player’s comments about José Mourinho being a ‘great manager’ (which he is) have, of course, created a few articles here and there.

Then comes the big debate about how much the player is actually worth, with Valencia, his current club, seemingly quoting his services at around €60m, which, for a player who had a fairly mediocre season, seems a bit much.

Juventus are also reported as being interested, and Corriere dello Sport on Monday have a report on this, but, according to them, a move for the Portuguese midfielder is a lost cause.

“Why?”, we hear you ask.

Well, that’s because the Italian newspaper claim the Serie A club aren’t able to compete with the Premier League club’s financial power, who have reportedly made a €45m + €15m offer for the Valencia starlet.

Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen, but this Jorge Mendes + José Mourinho = André Gomes to Manchester United equation certainly gets the clicks and the subscriptions flowing, meaning we can’t see them stopping anytime soon.

Tom Coast.
