With the signing of Jadon Sancho now out of the way, Manchester United can now focus on the other areas of the pitch Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants reinforced.

One of those is at centre-back, where the ideal partner for Harry Maguire has yet to be found.

Numerous names have been mentioned, among which can be found Raphaël Varane, largely seen as the favourite to be signed and add immediate quality and experience in the squad.

However, as always, there are plans B, C, D all the way to Z (probably) just in case it can’t be done, and Takehiro Tomiyasu is allegedly one of those.

That’s according to CalcioAtalanta, who reveal that Manchester United are one of the teams to have enquired about the Japan international.

According to the Italian website, both the Red Devils and West Ham have ‘limited themselves to simple informative phone calls’.

Tottenham are the clear favourites in this race, however, and if Manchester United aren’t that interested, it’s likely they will miss out on the Bologna star unless they act very swiftly.
