It’s been a while since a proper article had been written about Raphaël Varane’s situation at Real Madrid, but Marca make up for lost time with a thorough analysis of the youngster’s season and what the future holds for him.

As has been already strongly documented, the France international, who would be at the Euros were it not for a pre-tournament injury, doesn’t feel valued enough at the Spanish giants and could be looking for a way out.

Knowing he is behind both Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the pecking order at this moment in time, Marca speculate the 23-year-old could start looking elsewhere this summer, and Manchester United are waiting.

José Mourinho, who was the manager to buy him from Lens back in 2011 for Real Madrid, is a big fan of the youngster, and the Premier League club are described as the one to have ‘knocked the most’ on Florentino Pérez’s door, to no avail so far.

The Liga BBVA runners-up don’t have any particular plans to sell their budding centre-back this summer, unless the player starts applying some pressure to force a move out from the Santiago Bernabeú.

As Marca put it, the ball is firmly in Raphaël Varane’s court.
