Manchester United and Barcelona are in a ‘two-way race’ to sign Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat in the summer, according to Calciomercato.
On Wednesday, the Italian club lost to West Ham United in the Europa Conference League final. A day later, the midfielder said he’s “proud to have been part” of this team and also thanked everyone at the club.
With this message, Calciomercato state the 26-year-old ‘seems to say goodbye’ to the Serie A side. He’s was courted by Barcelona in January but they weren’t able to sign him then due to their lack of funds.
Amrabat’s contract expires in 2024, with an option to extend it for a year. The report says Fiorentina want around €40m and Manchester United ‘have more resources to satisfy’ their request.
Taking Barcelona’s economic conditions into account, the Old Trafford club could have an advantage to sign Amrabat in the summer.
On Thursday, his brother Nordin stated Erik ten Hag is “charmed” by the Fiorentina player. The Dutch coach managed Sofyan in the past, when the pair were at FC Utrecht.
