Manchester United currently have a legendary Swedish striker at the club in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former PSG player turns 35 years of age next month, but has already shown he’s still at the top of his game, and will be a star player for Jose Mourinho this season.
Right at the other end of the age scale is Jesper Karlsson, a young Swedish striker currently playing for Falkenbergs. Sweden’s Fotboll Direckt reported a couple of days ago that Manchester United are interested in signing the player.
It’s claimed they’ve already expressed their interest in the youngster, doing so at the start of the last international break, and will now continue to monitor his developments over the autumn.
Fotboll Direckt have managed to speak to Falkenbergs sporting director Håkan Nilsson who wouldn’t confirm Manchester United interest, but said the club wouldn’t hold Karlsson back if a move was on the cards, even in January.
Nilsson explained: “So the whole time I’ve been in Falkenberg we have never stopped anyone.”
The sporting director went on to explain that club would expect a reasonable fee for the player, and then would be happy to see him progress. Ajax, Feyenoord, Sunderland and FC Copenhagen have all also expressed their interest.
Manchester United are well stocked in their first team for strikers, but the club’s reserve squad are struggling for strength upfront.
