On Thursday Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes caused a great deal of fuss by claiming Manchester United are in talks to sign Breel Embolo.
The FC Basel player is one of the most highly rated youngsters in European football, and apparently pretty good on football manager games… so the hype exploded.
Embolo could be just what Manchester United should be looking for, quick and flexible in attack, he would be able to add to the squad and the potential for future world dominance.
However, Jose Mourinho would prefer current dominance and having bought Mohamed Salah from FC Basel in similar circumstances, and got bored in less than a year, Mourinho may prefer someone more experienced.
Anyway, with the pretence that it’s all happening, Germany’s LVZ take on view on Friday, from the standpoint of RB Leipzig.
RB thought that Embolo was heading their way in a summer window coup, but LVZ say the German club are now out of the race thanks to Manchester United.
Whilst RB were willing to pay Embolo €3m a season, LVZ say the groundsman earns that at Manchester United, and so he would expect to pick up between €5m and €6m at Old Trafford.
It’s not clear if the whole thing is their opinion, or if they’re trampling over RB’s dreams just because of the 20 Minutes claims.
