Arsenal and Manchester United officials were reportedly been watching a few Benfica players during the Eagles’ Champions League clash against Fenerbahce last night.
It’s newspaper Jornal de Notícias who reports it today, saying that along with Juventus, the Premier League sides were keeping an eye on talents from the Lisbon side.
The players would be Ruben Dias, Alex Grimaldo, Gedson Fernandes and Eduardo Salvio.
The newspaper doesn’t make it clear which club was watching which player, so let’s consider Arsenal and Manchester United were attentive to the performances from the four of them.
With Benfica attacking for most of the game, there wasn’t much for Ruben Dias to do in defence. He was safe when doing his job and even risked building up some plays.
Left-back Alex Grimaldo was one of the Eagles’ best players in the game, creating several attacks, as usual.
Gedson Fernandes, who’s just 19, made his debut for the first team last night. He had a regular performance, but got a mention from the newspapers for being a little rushed at times, due to his inexperience.
Playing on the right wing, Salvio was one of Benfica’s best players in the match, and besides the many attempts he had, he also made the assist for Franco Cervi’s winner.
Although Jornal de Notícias only names these three clubs, other outlets claim that Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Estoril, Montpellier, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Valencia were also present at the match.
