With a contract expiring on June 30th and having decided not to sign an extension at the Etihad, Eric García will leave Manchester City as a free agent after this season.

Barcelona are favourites to sign the Spain international and his exit could see City look for a new centre-back in the next market.

Reports coming out of Spain have suggested City have an interest in Samuel Umtiti.

The 27-year-old, who has struggled with various injuries since the 2018 World Cup, has fallen down the pecking order at the Camp Nou as Gerard Piqué, Clément Lenglet, Ronald Araújo and Óscar Mingueza are ahead of him.

Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo details the Frenchman’s situation and also provides an update on the claims made about Manchester City interest.

The newspaper states the ‘sale of Umtiti is on the table’ because he’s not included in Ronald Koeman’s plans at the Catalan club. However, ‘no offers have reached’ the offices of Barcelona so far.

Apart from Pep Guardiola’s side, rumours have also stated Zenit want to sign the defender.

The report, however, claims the two clubs have not discussed signing Umtiti in the summer.

Sources of the Russian club have denied their interest in the player, while Mundo states City ‘would not be considering hiring’ Umtiti either.
