Trying their hardest to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, Manchester City are looking for a more experienced centre-back to go alongside the £40m Nathan Aké.
They haven’t yet managed to convince Aurelio De Laurentiis with their offers, even if there’s still plenty of time to do so, but it also appears they are looking at alternatives.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Thursday, claiming Manchester City made an attempt for an old flame of Pep Guardiola’s: Leonardo Bonucci.
Already attempting this move a few years ago, the Spaniard gave it another go, but the Italian defender ‘does not even think about an experience in the Premier League’.
It’s stated that ‘in recent days, Manchester City contacted the entourage of Leo, trying to strike up a negotiation’.
However, that idea ‘has not even been born’ since the Italian renewed his contract with Juventus until 2024 last November and ‘will end his career at Juventus’.
It was a good idea from Guardiola, but it’s a reminder not everyone wants to move to Manchester City.
