Gero Rulli has reportedly snubbed an offer from Manchester City after the English side tried to use their buying option over him. The Real Sociedad goalkeeper wants to stay at the Spanish club for now, AS reports.
According to AS’ article on their website, Manchester City tried to activate a clause which meant they could sign the player for €10m.
This option was set a long time ago, since Txiki Begiristain was the person who brought the Argentine goalkeeper to Europe.
Despite this clause, Manchester City were never considered to be a threat for Real Sociedad, since the Spanish side believed they would never be interested in the goalkeeper.
However, they were surprised when Pep Guardiola signed for the club and immediately asked for the player to be signed.
AS says Rulli has refused City’s offer because he would only move if he had the assurance of starting regularly for the club. He was told he could start in only one competition, but that wasn’t good enough for him, since the 24-year-old believes he can only improve if he has a decent game time.
Real Sociedad are pretty happy with Rulli’s decision, and now plan to protect him by giving the goalkeeper a new contract and maybe buying a percentage of his economic rights.
AS believe Real Sociedad should pay around €7m to €8m for the 70% an investment company own of the player.
