On Monday, Mundo Deportivo explained Manchester City star İlkay Gündoğan is a ‘January objective’ for Barcelona.
Another report from the same newspaper provides more information on this case.
The La Liga side seriously value signing the midfielder and convincing him will be key to any potential deal.
The 32-year-old’s deal runs down at the end of this term and Manchester City want to tie him down to a new contract. The Premier League club’s offer is said to be for one season plus an option to further extend it by a year.
Mundo Deportivo state the Germany international prefers a longer deal, which Barca can offer. If the player brings an offer in January, Pep Guardiola’s side could consider opening the door for his transfer.
Meanwhile, Sky Deutschland have a report on the ex-Borussia Dortmund man discussing his future. It’s claimed there are ‘two options’ for him; stay at Manchester City or move to the Camp Nou.
Gündoğan has not made a decision yet, while Manchester City are ‘pushing for a contract extension’.
Sky’s information on the duration of the deal City to offer him is different to Mundo’s claim. The former states the Citizens want to propose a deal for two to three seasons for Gündoğan.
The Germany international wants to know Pep Guardiola’s future decision [the manager’s deal expires in 2023] before deciding whether or not to continue at the Etihad. Meanwhile, Barcelona are in the background.
“Barca are hot for him. Xavi is Gündogan’s great idol. He would like to play there, he also fits the Barca profile. The Catalans are looking for a free central midfielder who also takes on a lot of responsibility,” Sky reporter Marc Behrenbeck said.
