On Monday, journalist Ángel García stated Manchester City are showing interest in Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme, who was on loan at Girona last season.
This is now backed up by AS, who add the treble winners have told both the La Liga side and the 23-year-old about their desire to sign him in the summer window.
It’s claimed Manchester City’s interest in the winger ‘endorses a season of exponential growth’.
The Spaniard’s deal expires in 2028 and has a €60m release clause. AS say Atlético ‘have received’ Manchester City’s offer for the player but the operation is in the initial stages.
That’s because Diego Simeone’s side are ‘willing to sit down’ and negotiate the sale of almost any of their first team players.
It’s even stated they have not refused to negotiate Riquelme’s transfer for a figure less than his €60m clause.
The Madrid club could agree a deal with Pep Guardiola’s side for Riquelme if Simeone decides not to include him in his plans next season.
