Normally placed next to Tottenham and Barcelona these days, Adrien Rabiot’s name has rarely popped up alongside Manchester City’s.
Having already spent some time at Pep Guardiola’s current club (back in 2008) before swiftly returning to France six months later, the 23-year-old is currently running down his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and the Etihad side are among those interested in his services.
This is what Paris United claimed on Thursday, explaining that Manchester City have been in talks with the player’s entourage ‘for weeks’, providing competition for Spurs and co.
The idea in the Rabiot camp, or at least his mother’s idea (she’s also his agent), is for the midfielder to wait and see how Paris Saint-Germain fare in their tough Champions League group before making up his mind.
An early exit of the competition (they are currently third, one point behind Napoli and Liverpool) would prompt a push by Véronique Rabiot to try and find her son a club in January that also plays in the elite European competition.
The Ligue 1 champions are still hoping to get him to renew, as they want him to stay, but it seems we’ll have to wait some more before a decision is made.
Manchester City, in the meantime, will undoubtedly be keeping tabs, and if the opportunity arises, there’s certainly a deal to be done there.
The prodigal son returns and all that jazz.
