While on international duty with Portugal, Manchester City stars Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva were honoured for their Champions League title.

As reported by O Jogo, the achievement was acknowledged at the Gala Quinas de Ouro de 2023, where they received a small award.

Ruben Dias discussed how much his recent achievements mean to him, claiming he’s quite happy to have reached such a stage in his career. He says he did not always believe he’d make it in football, let alone win all the trophies he has with Manchester City.

“It’s a special moment and life is made up of dreams, which are our greatest motivation. I would use the word persistence. As Bernardo said, as I watched the years go by, I wondered if I would ever make it. We all doubt it at some point.

“Persistence and consistency is what fuels us. Our dreams were those of any kid. To play for your club, to win a Champions League. Nowadays, there’s a lot of confusion about living the life of a footballer. What you don’t see is a dream. But for me, more than anything, it’s about breathing football, dedicating my life to my passion.”

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva also talked about his achievements, and looked back at idols he had when he was younger.

“I’m very happy to receive this award. I advise the younger ones to have fun, it’s our passion. Have fun, enjoy it, because if you do what you love, you’re much more likely to do it better.

“References? I’ve had quite a few, one of them, and I’ve never hidden the fact that he’s here, was Rui Costa, he played in the same position and club as me, in the national team, it was an inspiration to follow in his footsteps and his success.”

Dias and Silva were both starters in Portugal’s win over Iceland on Sunday. They had a perfect campaign in the Euro Qualifiers, with ten wins in ten games, with Roberto Martinez making sure to use their full strength even after they had the qualification guaranteed.

The duo is now set to return to England, where Manchester City prepare for a tough challenge against Liverpool at the weekend.

The game will decide who gets the top of the Premier League table, and Pep Guardiola will certainly be counting on the pair.
