FC Twente manager Ron Jans has confirmed they are in talks with Manchester City to keep young striker Manfred Ugalde at the club.
The 19-year-old Costa Rican forward is currently on loan with the Dutch club from Lommel SK, who he joined from Saprissa in his homeland in July 2020.
He’s enjoyed a solid first season with them, largely playing a substitute’s role but making 24 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring three goals and registering two assists regardless.
The deal is set to expire at the end of the season, at which point he will return to Lommel, and they will decide what to do with him next.
The Belgian club are actually a part of the City Football Group, meaning that the striker’s future will actually be determined by those higher up the chain at Manchester City.
“We already started talks with Manfred Ugalde, his Agent (Kurt Morsink) and Manchester City,” he told ESPN Costa Rica, relayed by AM Prensa.
“We are working on it, we are very satisfied with his performance, and we believe that he can continue to grow as a player; in this situation, we want him to continue in the team minimum of one season.
“I am the coach; that is a matter for the sports managers, Manchester City and his agent.
“I think they talked three weeks ago; everything has been very positive; things can be achieved. It may take a little while in legal matters; the coach must delegate that to other people.”
