Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was part of a comic scene in Denmark’s match against Switzerland on Saturday, as he basically tackled the referee.

The player was running towards the ball, and with the official standing on his way, there was no other option but to push him.

That turned into a funny subject in the Danish media, and outlet Tipsbladet now shares Højbjerg’s quotes on the incident.

“It wasn’t malicious, but the ball is mine. They counter-attacked and I tried to get back quickly. It was man or ball, but he finished the game, so I don’t think anything bad happened.”

The Tottenham player tried to explain what happened in the play, claiming he needed to do that.

Højbjerg also claimed that he managed to speak to the referee and apologise after the match.

“We talked a bit after the game and laughed a bit about it, so it was fine.”

Following Denmark’s 0-0 draw against Switzerland, they now face the Faroe Islands in another friendly on Tuesday.

They currently prepare their squad for the Euro, where they’ve been drawn in Group C, along with Slovenia, Serbia and England.

Tottenham will be back in action on Saturday, when they play Luton Town as Ange Postecoglou’s side currently stand in 5th in the Premier League table, and have the chance to reach Aston Villa, who have three points more.
