Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali was linked to Juventus before and during the summer window, and the Italian media don’t want to give up on the dream.
Former Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio has told Gazzetta dello Sport he dreams of seeing Tonali at the Serie A side and Calciomercato have relayed his comments.
“What transfer market signing do I dream of for the future? As an Italian, I’d say Tonali, but the unattainable dream would be Barcelona’s Pedri,” he said.
Calciomercato report of Juventus’ interest in the Newcastle star when Cristiano Giuntoli was their sporting director, and he continues to be on their agenda for January.
It’s claimed the Old Lady are looking to improve their midfield in the mid-season window and are planning different options.
The first is to seal a low-cost operation, probably on loan, and the other option is to make a top signing in the winter market. For the latter, the report states Juve need a ‘superb run’ in the Champions League, where they started with a draw against Borussia Dortmund.
In that case, the Turin club could use the funds from the Champions League to reinvest in a top midfielder, and this is where Tonali comes into the picture.
Calciomercato report the former AC Milan man remains the ‘main target’ and add that he has an ‘unwavering desire’ to return to Italy. Despite the 25-year-old’s wish, Juve are well aware that negotiations with the Magpies won’t be easy and could look for alternatives.
The Italian media push Tonali towards Juve even though the negotiations with Newcastle will be complicated, if not almost impossible in January.
