Flamengo remain in talks with Arsenal midfielder Jorginho to try and find an agreement for the January transfer window.
That’s according to GE Global, who report that the ‘main obstacle’ for the transfer is money. The player and the Brazilian club are yet to find common ground on that front.
They explain Flamengo and Jorginho continue to talk in search of agreement for him to join from Arsenal in this transfer window. They are trying to reach a ‘common denominator’ so an agreement can be reached.
At this moment in time, the Arsenal midfielder is asking for sums that are ‘out of the question’. Flamengo have sent a proposal that they consider doable and hope to convince the 33-year-old of their project.
Arsenal are providing competition as well, though. They would like to keep Jorginho for another year. His contract expires in the summer but they’re proposing a one-year extension.
Flamengo will only sign Jorginho if he is available on a free. That includes this month. Therefore, the Italian will need to ‘get away’ from the Gunners if he can agree contract terms with the Brazilians.
He is free to sign a pre-contract with Flamengo, but they want him now. If not, they could wait until the middle of the year. That will depend on how Arsenal approach matters in the next two weeks.
Jorginho, for his part, is looking forward to the idea of playing in Brazil. He knows he’d be first choice at Flamengo, who are set to lose Erick Pulgar.
Talks are currently focused on him and Flamengo finding an agreement on contract terms. If they can do that, focus will presumably turn to convincing Arsenal to let him go this month.
