Manchester United are the ‘main candidate’ to sign Atlético Madrid star João Félix in the winter market, according to Marca.

The forward’s relationship with Diego Simeone has deteriorated, which was earlier revealed by the La Liga side’s CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, who had also opened the door for the player’s transfer.

Los Rojiblancos leaders are now ‘willing to agree to a negotiation’ for the 23-year-old, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has approached a few other clubs, including Manchester United.

The Portugal international’s suitors are not ready to invest big and this has seen Mendes explore the loan option for his client in January. The super-agent is convinced this path could lead to a sale next summer, expected by all parties.

A loan move will also allow the former Benfica man to revalue himself and play under a new manager.

Manchester United are named by Marca, who explain they are the ‘best placed’ team to acquire Félix’s signature in January.

First, though, Erik ten Hag’s side must make a proposal that can convince Atlético to sanction the player’s move in the upcoming window.

The Madrid club want to sort out this case as soon as possible, but they have not received any proposals so far, and Atlético haven’t hesitated to point out that Félix will not leave if they don’t receive a satisfactory offer.

With Manchester United reportedly ‘best placed’ to sign Félix, they must now make an offer that can convince Atlético.
