Following yesterday’s worries that Celtic’s invasion of Madrid ahead of their team’s clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League, the city’s mayor has decided to have a word.

It’s known that the Scottish side have a very affectionate fanbase, which often translates into a surplus of supporters making the trip.

This week is no different, with claims that as many as 7,000 ticketless fans will be in Madrid to support Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic has they see off this season’s stint in the Champions League.

Celtic are currently bottom of their group with no chance of even making the Europa League by finishing third, but that won’t stop their fans from enjoying themselves.

Madrid are expecting 10,000 fans to travel, which is why they’ve deployed a number of security measures, which José Luis Martínez-Almeida ‘trusts’.

He said, relayed by Gente Digital, that these are put in place ‘so that there are no relevant incidents, and, if they do occur, they can be addressed as soon as possible, and stopped as soon as possible’.

He continued: “Of course in all these matches, and especially in those of European competition, there is a security plan that is coordinated with the Delegation and has municipal services and the Municipal Police. Our Security Forces and Bodies already have experience in this type of matches and fans.”

As things stands, a few incidents have already been reported, with Celtic fans arriving in the city from Monday, with Plaza Mayor and the city centre currently filled with Scottish masses.
