Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique could play a key role in snatching Julián Álvarez away from Arsenal this summer.
AS report that the Spanish coach may play his part in denying Arsenal the big transfer they want from Atlético Madrid.
PSG deny Arsenal
The newspaper explains that PSG will not accelerate any transfer moves until their season is over. With the Champions League final still to be contested, their focus is on the pitch.
However, the first names to reinforce the squad are already on the list. And Julián Álvarez is one who could be come one of the main protagonists of the summer market. The Argentine striker is very much among PSG’s targets.
In fact, he is a ‘specific request’ from Luis Enrique, who has always been a fan of the striker. He tried to sign him for PSG two years ago. Álvarez denied it and went to Atlético Madrid instead.
Now sources close to the 26-year-old are stating that a summer transfer is possible. That has sparked major interest from European clubs.
Arsenal and Barcelona have also expressed interest in the acquiring his services. But Luis Enrique’s presence in the battle could tip the scales in PSG’s favour.
The Spaniard’s playing style and the excellent work he’s done in Paris are factors that ‘could weigh heavily’ on the striker. PSG very much see him as the ideal addition, particularly if Gonçalo Ramos departs as expected.
Arsenal need to move now
Thus, Arsenal may need to get a move on. Reports have linked them with a potential move for the Argentina star for months.
But PSG, with Enrique’s backing, could be difficult to beat to the signing. The French giants could, easily, outmuscle Arsenal when it comes to financial matters.
Perhaps a big performance in the Champions League final, and a win for Arsenal, could help the Gunners sway the argument back in their favour.
