Manchester United’s defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League last night undoubtedly generated many questions about what’s going on with Erik ten Hag’s side, and Christian Eriksen has tried to explain his take on things.
After the match, the midfielder gave an interview to TNT Sports‘ journalist Fred Caldeira, and talked about what went wrong for the Red Devils to seem them lose their second consecutive game in the European competition.
“Yeah, no, I think it’s difficult to explain. I think we played some part of the game a good game. But I do think that at the moment our mistakes are being punished and with our mistakes we conceded goals.”
Eriksen was also asked about the pressure that’s hanging over Manchester United right now, and he claimed the team has actually been having a bit of bad luck.
“Yeah, and I think the easiest way not to have the pressure is winning games. And of course, to win games you don’t have to make the mistakes we’re doing. So I think if we take away the mistakes we’re making at certain times I think we’ll we win a lot more games. But in the end there’s also a bit of luck that’s going against us. We need to find that back and find our mojo back to be able to win games.”
The midfielder even talked about how the dressing room has been reacting to so many poor results recently, explaining there’s no specific player speaking up, but it’s more a collective reaction as would be expected.
“No, today the manager said what he said and yeah, everyone else listened and we’re quiet. I think everyone is looking at themselves because we know we need to change. We need to be better for next game coming up. And today has happened. We’re not happy about it, but we have to be ready for next game.”
Following the defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, Manchester United are now bottom of the Champions League’s Group A, and Erik ten Hag has a huge job ahead to try to bring the club to the knock-out stage.
With the Red Devils not doing great in the Premier League either, they now prepare to face Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday.
