Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has questioned Tottenham’s decision to loan Tanguy Ndombele to the Italian side this season.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who cover comments from the Napoli boss today from his pre-match press conference for the clash against Torino on Sunday.
Ndombele was shipped out to Napoli in the summer transfer window, when it was made clear he was not a part of Antonio Conte’s plans for Tottenham this season.
Like his loan at Lyon last season he has failed to get his career back on track, struggling to get into the Napoli team that has shone in Serie A and the Champions League this season.
While he has featured regularly in Serie A, making 24 appearances in total, they have mostly been from the bench, with the Frenchman featuring in just 26% of the available minutes so far.
It means his loan deal from Tottenham is unlikely to be made a permanent one, despite the Italian side having an option to make it so at the end of the season.
That is seemingly despite Spalletti being a fan, with him sharing his opinion on the midfielder and questioning why Tottenham let him go in the first place.
“Ndombele is a strong player, at the beginning I didn’t know him much,” Tuttomercatoweb report him saying.
“There was the doubt of why Tottenham let him leave, for what I saw, watching the Milan-Tottenham game, for what is my knowledge, I would have seen him well in.
“He’s a guy I like to coach, he’s also a very sweet guy, physically strong, in modern football you have to include this physical strength which is important, he has strength, motor, technique, darts in where he sees where the space is to crash, he’s someone I like as they say in Tuscany.”
