Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin has revealed striker Elye Wahi “loves Arsenal” amid claims the Gunners are looking at a transfer this summer.
Nicollin has been speaking to 100% Paillade, relayed by Esprit Paillade, ahead of a summer transfer window in which it appears Wahi will be moving on.
The 20-year-old has been impressing in Ligue 1 again this season with 19 goals and six assists in 33 games.
He’s been making great strides at Montpellier since his debut, with a tally of 32 goals and nine assists in 91 games for the senior side so far earning him plenty of admirers.
Arsenal have been showing an interest in him since last year and that has not ended, with it recently claimed that their interest was ‘considerable’ and even a hint that a bid may have already been made.
Mikel Arteta’s side are thought to be on the lookout for offensive reinforcements this summer and Wahi would certainly fit the bill, particularly given their ongoing desire to focus on younger talent.
Nicollin has now added fuel to the rumours that Wahi could end up at the Emirates, admitting the player loves the Gunners.
“His agent is talking to four or five big clubs, and I know who they are, but I won’t tell you. We know how much he loves Arsenal,” he said.
Now, naturally that doesn’t mean Wahi will end up at Arsenal this summer, but it certainly gives them an advantage over any potential competition if their interest is as serious as has been claimed.
