Chelsea tried to stop Maurizio Sarri from leaving the club in the summer of 2019, according to claims in the Italian media today.
This subject was brought back in an interview where Radiosei spoke to journalist Fabrizio Ferrari, who used to work as a ‘collaborator’ for the manager.
Speaking of Sarri, Ferrari brought a few details of his time at Chelsea, and claimed the manager could not be convinced to stay at the Stamford Bridge after only one season in charge.
“When Sarri went to Juve, Chelsea made a last attempt to convince him to stay because they were in love with him,” Fabrizio Ferrari told Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).
“He said no because he was convinced of Juve and the fact that they promised him a renewal and a rejuvenation, which they then failed to do by taking only De Ligt. It took Sarri a month to make Jorginho what he is.”
After great years in charge of Napoli, Sarri joined Chelsea in the summer of 2018.
There, he had a record of 40 wins, 11 draws and 12 losses in 63 games, finishing the Premier League in 3rd and winning the Europa League in a final against Arsenal.
Despite the feeling that he could have done more if given more time to work, he returned to Juventus, where he also stayed for only one season.
And after a sabbatical year, in 2021 he took charge of Lazio, where he has a contract running until 2025.
