Earlier on Wednesday, El Partidazo de COPE reported Julen Lopetegui is close to being the new manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Spaniard was sacked by Sevilla on October 5th and nearly a month later, he is now ‘closer than ever to returning to the bench’, specifically at Molineux.

That’s according to Fichajes.net, who state the 56-year-old has already held negotiations with the Premier League side over the ‘first signing’ he would want at Wolves.

It’s claimed Lopetegui would ask Wolves to sign Real Madrid’s Mariano Díaz in the winter market.

The coach was in charge of Los Blancos in 2018, when they brought the forward back to the Madrid from Lyon. He now wants to reunite with the Dominican at Wolves, who had previously tried signing the 29-year-old.

Mariano’s deal with the Champions League winners runs down at the end of this season. He has put several obstacles to leave Real Madrid in the past, but that has not improved his game time at the Bernabéu.

A move to Wolves could help the attacker reverse the situation. Whether he will agree to join the Premier League side remains to be seen.
