Aston Villa director Monchi is again a subject of strong opinions in the Spanish media today.
This time, the chief is blamed for the situation of Isco, who had been released by Sevilla back in January and, after signing for Real Betis this summer, is off to a very good start.
The story comes from Mucho Deporte, and the reason the Aston Villa director gets some criticism is that he was the one handling the midfielder’s situation at Nervion.
Columnist Lucas Haurie claims it was a mistake for Monchi to release Isco from Sevilla, as the player had shown signs he could do well and was badly treated by the director.
‘Monchi was trapped in a loop of melancholy and anger that ended up sending him to England, and one of the paymasters of his bad mood was the Malagueño midfielder,’ says the piece.
The story claims Isco was a victim of Monchi’s ‘toxic impulsiveness’, with the player given no chance to make a turnaround at the club.
The situation is claimed to be ‘surely’ a mistake because of how well the player is doing at Betis, and with Monchi gone to Aston Villa, he’s slid away from the blame.
The piece uses a quote from former Sevilla president José Maria del Nildo Benavente, who once said: “Has Monchi got it wrong? A barbarity. Did he get it right? Ten barbarities.”
