Bought towards the end of the transfer window to replace Wesley Fofana, Leicester City’s Wout Faes didn’t take long to make a name for himself at the Premier League club.
The Belgium international arrived from Stade de Reims, and while his start for the Foxes was a tad shaky, he has become instrumental in their turn of form of late.
Leicester have won five of their last six games in all competitions, including a crucial game against West Ham at the weekend, seeing off David Moyes’ men at London Stadium in a 2-0 victory.
They have conceded just one goal in that period, in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City, and Faes, who will be representing Belgium at the World Cup, has played a big part in that.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday ahead of the tournament in Qatar, he was asked about his transfer to Leicester and how that has impacted him.
He said, relayed by DH: “I haven’t played a lot in the national team. My transfer and performances I the league have made the difference. I immediately became a starter in the Premier League. We’ve managed a good run before the World Cup.”
Faes then added: “Even in training, we go 100% in challenges. We go all out. The fans like me. I feel good when I’m on the pitch. I’ve noticed looks have changed since I left France for England. It’s only positives for me. I think that it’s an advantage with the national team manager.”
The Leicester defender did admit it was ‘emotional’ to leave his family behind, but made it clear everyone around him were proud of what he had achieved over the past few months.
