With the two biggest clubs in Lisbon interested in signing the same player, it’s obvious we’ll keep getting constant updates on this battle.
We’re talking about Wolverhampton Wanderers fullback Ruben Vinagre, who’s being chased by Benfica and Sporting. Following his short loan spell at Portuguese side Famalicão this year, a little race for his signing has been formed.
Newspaper Record today features two short stories on those pursuits.
Let’s start with what they have to say regarding the Eagles.
It’s said Benfica could lose their two left-backs this summer, so they have him as a target in case they need to replace either of them. The outlet writes that Vinagre has been on the club’s radar ‘for a long time’ and is now ‘on the table’ for the transfer window.
In Sporting’s case, Record writes that contacts for Vinagre started in May and should get a ‘boost’ very soon. Especially because their first option for the left-back position, Nuno Mendes, could be on his way out of the club.
The newspaper claims that the fact Benfica are now in the competition has ‘accelerated’ the race for the player. Still, they don’t seem to know how much each Lisbon club will be offering for the transfer.
Vinagre has a contract with Wolves running until 2024.
