Earlier today, we covered Sport’s report about Fulham’s move for Villarreal defender Jorge Cuenca. There is now further confirmation about the move, which seems set to go through soon.
Sport had mentioned that Fulham will be paying €6.5m for the defender and that the move has now truly ‘closed’.
Today’s edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo, Villarreal’s local newspaper, brings further good news for Fulham fans, as they state the club will pay around €7m for the defender.
Cuenca’s current deal at Villarreal runs out in the summer of 2025 and that has perhaps helped Fulham to seal a move for him on the cheap.
After all, the 2023/24 season was the first time that he played regular first-team football for Villarreal, making 29 La Liga appearances.
For a player who has now become a regular for the first-team, this seems like a smart bit of business by Fulham.
