First things first. Mohamed Salah hopes to be ready for Egypt’s first World Cup match against Uruguay and sounds optimistic about his fitness status.
Hurrah!
The Liverpool star has been speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, and graces their Saturday front page. Usually when a player linked with Real Madrid, however weakly, ends up on Marca’s front page, and there’s an interview, they end up hinting at a transfer.
But this is Mohamed Salah, and things are different. There’s not even a mention of a potential move.
Inevitably asked about his Champions League final injury, Salah confirmed it was the worst moment of his career. “When I fell to the ground, I had a mixture of physical pain and a lot of worry, also anger and sadness for not being able to continue playing the Champions League final. Moments later, I also thought about the possibility of missing the World Cup and that was a devastating thought.”
Asked he thinks the collision with Sergio Ramos was a normal part of the game, the Liverpool player said: “I don’t know. Maybe?”
As for Ramos’ comments about the possibility Salah could have continued with an injection, the player laughed and said: “My comment is that it’s always good when the one who first made you cry, then makes you laugh. Maybe he could also tell me if I’m going to be ready for the World Cup?”
Ramos also said he’d spoken to the Liverpool player and everything was OK, to which Salah commented: “He sent me a message, but I never told him it was ‘okay’.”
The rest of the chat was about the chances of Egypt and Spain at the World Cup, and Salah found time to praise his former teammate Diego Costa, who he describes as ‘top, top, top’ as a man.
Egypt’s match against Uruguay is on June 15th, which just so happens to be Mohamed Salah’s 26th birthday.
