Liverpool’s interest in Lecce youngster Patrick Dorgu has now been confirmed by his agent.
That was revealed in an interview that representative Kingsley Ogbodo had with Danish outlet Bold.
The agent was speaking about the race there is for the 18-year-old, and had no problem in saying that Liverpool have been in touch for the signing.
“Liverpool want him. Liverpool have been watching him and interested in him for some time, but if he goes there he’ll have to play in the U23 team,” Ogbodo told Bold.
The representative admitted that joining the Reds’ youth levels may not be the best decision for him at this stage.
“It’s not the best for him, so I advise him not to do it. They can offer him a lot of money, but that’s not what we’re looking for right now. We focus on his career, development and playing time.”
Ogbodo also warned about the big competition there is to take Dorgu out of Lecce this summer.
“Liverpool are of course not the only club that want him. There are many clubs here in England who are keeping an eye on him.”
“Manchester City kept an eye on him when he played against England for the U19 national team in Hobro in Denmark.”
“Lecce’s scout has also told me that Barcelona is also keeping an eye on Patrick, because he’s a huge talent.”
The agent also claimed there’s no hurry for the youngster to leave the Italian club, whether it be for Liverpool or anyone else.
“We’d like him to stay in Lecce a little longer. Two more seasons so he can mature and gain experience.”
“So when he moves on to a bigger club in a few seasons, we will know at that time that he is ready for it.”
Dorgu used to belong to Danish side Nordsjaelland. Last summer, he joined Lecce first on a loan, and the move is set to become permanent next month on a €200k deal.
All this interest makes it a bit clear that the Serie A side have a gem on their hands, and it’s good for them that he’s protected with a contract which runs until 2027.
