French newspaper L’Equipe have covered comments from the agent of Liverpool outcast Mamadou Sakho. Having fallen out of favour with Jurgen Klopp, the Frenchman looks headed for the exit and Sakho’s agents feel that seems ‘inevitable’ this winter.
Sakho’s camp do have some power in this situation. His representatives have already made it clear to Galatasaray that the defender wants to remain in the Premier League. Gala had been very keen to sign Sakho, and would have provided a good deal for Liverpool, but the player’s will is crucial.
Whilst L’Equipe point out that West Ham and Stoke City were interested during the summer transfer window, they don’t cover any current interest in the player.
West Brom have been linked but so far there doesn’t seem to be anything concrete in that direction either. Therefore, the situation could become more difficult for Klopp and Liverpool.
If no Premier League interest arrives then that’s a problem if Sakho can’t be convinced to go elsewhere. That problem may need to be solved financially, via a pay-off or some form of encouragement.
Should a Premier League side come forward, they will surely expect Liverpool to dance to their tune. Sakho is so clearly for sale that Liverpool don’t have much negotiating power, especially given the lack of current interest.
On a good contract which lasts until 2020, Sakho is a financial burden to Liverpool and clearly a player Klopp doesn’t want around the place.
