Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in Porto midfielder Alan Varela, according to reports.
The information comes from Argentina, where BolaVip shares an exclusive story on the race for the 22-year-old.
It’s said that both Liverpool and Manchester City would like to sign the Porto player in the next summer.
The Reds’ chase for Varela is reportedly ‘not new’, as they made an approach for him while he still played for Boca Juniors.
It’s said Liverpool have little depth in midfield and would like to add another player to the sector, although such a deal is likely to wait until the summer.
In Manchester City’s case, it’s said they’d like Varela to replace Kalvin Phillips, who’s reportedly on his way to West Ham United.
What the clubs should be concerned about is Porto’s request for the transfer, with Bolavip claiming the Dragons would only let him go for the price of his release clause, which stands at €70m. He’s well protected with a contract running until 2028.
Varela has indeed been doing well for the Portuguese side lately, but we’re still to see whether clubs would be convinced to spend that much on his signing in January.
