Real Madrid are eyeing up a move for Ibrahima Konaté when his contract at Liverpool expires in 2026.

Last month, claims from Spain stated the La Liga club could consider signing the defender this summer. On July 15th, Mundo Deportivo reported Real Madrid could offer €30m while the Reds are demanding €50m.

Later that month, Foot Mercato reported Liverpool have no plans to part ways with the centre-back in this window.

Fast forward to August and Thursday’s edition of Marca covers Liverpool’s desire to tie him down to a new contract.

The Premier League winners are close to signing Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni and have also been credited with interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi.

Marca make it clear this is their own information, and explain Liverpool’s pursuit of the two centre-backs is related to uncertainty around Konaté’s future.

It’s claimed Liverpool’s directors want to avoid losing the France international for free and are exerting pressure on him to sign an extension.

The English club believe the 26-year-old is in contact with Real Madrid and want to avoid losing him to Los Blancos.

Marca have found out that Arne Slot’s side plan to make a contract offer to Konaté in the coming days. If he were to reject it, the newspaper reports his situation would ‘radically change’ and Liverpool can make him available in this market.

If that were to happen, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will make an attempt to sign the Frenchman.
