When Sporting were preparing to face Liverpool in a friendly this week, the Portuguese press urged Bruno Fernandes to impress Jurgen Klopp so he could sign for the Reds.
But it seems the Anfield Road side actually noticed another player from the Lions, and that’s 21 year old Idrissa Doumbia.
According to Record’s front page story today, Liverpool have given ‘indications’ to their scouting department to start following the midfielder more closely.
It’s said that after the game, the Reds have asked about the conditions, the origins and the path of the player so far. And more importantly, they asked what Sporting plan to do about his development.
Record says that ‘despite the curiosity’, Liverpool have made it clear they’re not trying to sign Doumbia now. But they didn’t hide they will follow him, since he has ‘the profile’ to sign for the Anfield Road side.
Doumbia’s contract with Sporting runs until 2024, and he’s protected by a release clause of €60m.
