The main rumour in the Portuguese rumour mill this week has certainly been the one linking Luis Diaz to Liverpool, as the story took over the local newspapers over the past few days.
So with outlets going for more information on the chase, Radio Renascença managed to have a short conversation with the winger’s agent, Carlos Van Strahalen.
The representative didn’t really want to feed the rumours, nor did he deny them, and ended up claiming it’s ‘normal’ that clubs are getting interested in Diaz now.
“It’s normal. If a player plays well, if he starts to stand out, if the majority considers him the best player in the Portuguese League, if he’s the top scorer and is making a high-level Champions League, that interest is normal,” Van Strahalen told Rádio Renascença.
“Can he leave Porto? I don’t know, I can’t even talk much at the moment, because I’m in a meeting, we’ll talk later”.”
On their website, Radio Renascença only names Liverpool as one of the suitors to sign the Porto player, and that’s the same done by many other outlets, as they’re all convinced that the Reds would like to sign Diaz in January.
Diaz is protected by a €80m release clause, and the word in Portugal is that Porto will demand that much to let him move in January. The club’s expectation is to make him their biggest sale ever.
The winger has already scored 11 goals for the club this season, and the rumours about his exit have been on since he was the top scorer in Copa America this summer.
