Liverpool are interested in a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and have already been in contact with the Serie A club about a move.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who claim they have ‘targeted‘ the centre back as they look for a new partner for Virgil van Dijk.
Koulibaly is widely expected to leave Napoli this summer, with it understood his huge wage packet could become a problem at the club should they miss out on Champions League football next season.
He too is seemingly keen on moving, having concluded that at 28-years-old, this could be his last shot at a significant move elsewhere.
Liverpool were not on the list of suitors but, according to TMW that has changed and they have already held the ‘first contacts‘ with Napoli about a transfer.
The idea of signing him is ‘strong‘ at the club as they would like to form a partnership with Van Dijk at the heart of their defence, with neither Joel Matip, Joe Gomez or Dejan Lovren having proven the answer in that department.
In fact, on the subject of Matip, the website claims he will either be sold off or relegated to ‘first reserve‘, although a sale is ‘more likely‘.
The two sides are yet to agree on a fee for Koulibaly, who was valued at €100m but has seen that drop as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, with them planning to talk about a deal again in the coming weeks.
