Liverpool may have been handed their chance to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund, with the forward having made it clear he wants to move.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say the Dutchman is ‘planning to leave Dortmund’ and the German side are open to a sale.
We covered a report at the end of last month which stated that Liverpool still had Malen on their radar having long been interested in a move for the forward and nearly signed him before he went to Dortmund.
That report explained how talk of a potential exit from Dortmund had been growing as the forward had changed his agent, sparking a belief he could be set to push for an exit.
Sky now say that is very much the case, stating that Malen ‘is planning to leave Dortmund’ and that the Black and Yellows consider him ‘a candidate for sale’.
“He is planning his departure. We can confirm that. BVB wouldn’t mind and wouldn’t put any obstacles in his way,” Sky journalist Patrick Berger is reported as saying.
He added that is the case ‘provided that a club comes with an offer of at least €30m’ for the forward.
Whether Liverpool are willing to offer such an amount remains to be seen but they’ve been linked consistently for years, including in that report last month on Malen changing agents, something which Dortmund sporting director “Sebastien Kehl has already asked what that means” according to Berger.
Any interest from the Reds is likely to depend on if there are departures from their forward line, which is currently well stocked and certainly doesn’t need more additions.
Either way, Malen is now seemingly setting himself up to leave Dortmund sooner rather than later and that will surely mean the Reds are brought into the picture again in the coming weeks.
