Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has spoken to ESPN Brasil about his club’s recent form and his latest call-up to the Brazilian National Team.
Talking to the reporter João Castello Branco, the 24-year-old was happy for the Reds’ win but made sure to say he’s focused on the upcoming matches.
“The road is very long. It was a good game, but we have to think about the next.”
The reporter commented on Liverpool’s pressing during the entire game, saying it seemed Liverpool had more energy than Chelsea. Coutinho responded: “As you said, we try to press a lot. We are a team that plays pressing high.
“We work it a lot during the week. This is something that the coach asks and demands of us. Of course, we did well. We were superior and deserved to win.”
On the call-up for the games against Bolivia and Venezuela for the World Cup Qualifiers, the player said: “It’s always an honour to wear the shirt of the national team. It’s a great pride. The two are important games.
“Of course, we have the goal of being qualified at the end. These are two games that can give us more confidence and we will go there to do our job calm, happy and with confidence.”
Coutinho is also glad he’ll now have some company from Liverpool at the national team, since Roberto Firmino had his first call up in 2016: “We were there in the locker room and Firmino was very happy. I’m happy for him.”
