Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has admitted he is looking forward to taking on Manchester United and reuniting with Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The forward has been speaking this week about life at Liverpool under Arne Slot, with his latest comments covered by Voetbal International.
It’s been a busy summer for the Dutchman, who was a part of the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 before returning to Anfield to start life anew under Slot.
He’s taken charge of Liverpool this summer following Jurgen Klopp’s decision to step away from the club earlier this year.
The Dutch coach has been quick to set about changing things up and moulding the side in his image, something that was clear in the opening day win over Ipswich Town.
That was a small hurdle that was eventually cleared by the Reds, who take on Brentford on Sunday in Slot’s first game at Anfield.
They’re then scheduled to travel to Old Trafford for what will be the first major test of life under their new manager, and Gakpo is looking forward to it, particularly as there’s a reunion on the cards.
“Playing against United is a big deal, you really have to win that,” he said.
“We have to prepare for that, because United has also improved the team. It will be a great match.
“I haven’t seen coach Ruud for a long time. He was first a striker coach and then head coach. I learned a lot from him and got a lot from him, in finishing, in movement.”
